Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions about sexual abuse coaching

Is this therapy and will my insurance cover it?

No to both parts.  You may be able to get reimbursed through your state Victims of Crime Act, but it depends on your state.

Why isn't this free?

Much like doctors, lawyers and other professionals we are not funded like state agencies and non-profits.  There are plenty of free services that may help, but all are tactical in nature.  They get you fixed up and hopefully living a normal life again, but they don’t focus on the longer strategic aspects of dealing with a child who has been sexually abused.

What if I already have a therapist for my child?

Perfect.  You will want one.  The challenge is what are you going to do for you as a parent?  We can answer questions that a therapist or child advocate may not be able to answer.  We also focus on a path forward as apposed to dealing with the trauma.

How is this different than what other agencies do?

You will quickly find out that most agencies dealing with sexual assault want to make sure you are safe and have a therapist lined up.  They may also refer you to legal resources or victim services.  After about 6 weeks, you will find that you have run out of available services. We work on planning things going forward.

Can't I just read some books on the subject?

Education is key to your child’s future success so definitely read as many books as you are comfortable with.  Books can’t talk to you, and even therapists may not have been through the experience themselves.

What if I'm not comfortable talking about this?

Most people aren’t comfortable talking about this.  You will find that your friends don’t even want to talk about this with you.  It just takes time and you do need to learn to talk about this – preferably with someone who has lived through it.
